Great news!

The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Amendment Bill 2021 passed the Senate on Thursday 17 June 2021.

Senators Brown (ALP), Faruqi (Greens) and Bragg (Lib) all spoke in support of the Bill. Senators Faruqi and Bragg both acknowledged the important role of Headland Preservation Group (HPG) in bringing about the amendments.

The passing of the Bill is a wonderful result and one of which HPG can be very proud. Primarily the amendments provide that:

• Trust lands ( except for North Head which has a separate arrangement with the NSW Government) will now remain with the Commonwealth and be protected in perpetuity for all Australians and

• Leases will be capped at 35 years, ensuring that inappropriate alienation of land to private interests will not occur.

Special Event: Save the Date – 2 August 2021

It is HPG’s very great pleasure to announce that General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK CVO MC will be the guest speaker at a dinner to be held on Monday 2 August 2021 at the Sergeants Mess, Chowder Bay, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the formation of the Headland Preservation Group.

The dinner will commemorate 25 years of HPG’s role in representing the community to protect and conserve our iconic Harbour Trust sites for the enjoyment of all.

To ensure HPG’s ability to continue its efforts to represent the community in the future, HPG would very much appreciate your support for this event which will also be a fundraiser – further details to follow.
