Dear Members and Supporters, HPG continues to be actively involved in matters concerning Harbour Trust lands. 10 Terminal and Parklands Renewal ProjectHPG prepared and lodged a submission in respect of The 10 Terminal and Parklands Renewal Project. Read it here → It is anticipated that there will be a public exhibition and consultation of the Draft Design Concept in the coming weeks so watch this space. Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Amendment Bill 2020HPG prepared and lodged a submission to the Department of Environment in respect of the proposed Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Amendment Bill 2020. The Amendments to the SHFT Act are in line with the following recommendations made as a result of the Harbour Trust Review: Recommendation 5 – that the Harbour Trust should become an ongoing entity Recommendation 6 – that the Act should be amended to further specify that the appointment of each member of the Harbour Trust should be based on particular expertise Recommendation 12 – that the threshold for ministerial approval of contracts should be increased from $1 million to $5 million Recommendation 13 – that provisions relating to the approval of leases be revised.
HPG supports the Harbour Trust becoming an ongoing entity however it does not support the proposed amendments to the Harbour Trust leasing provisions which allow for long term leases. Long leases have the potential to alienate public land for private purposes. Shorter term leases with a maximum term of 35 years will protect Trust lands form inappropriate development that may not accord with the Trust primary object of conserving and preserving heritage and environmental values. Read more here → Other current matters requiring public consultationThe Harbour Trust is inviting the public to have their say on the following consultation documents: Stakeholder Engagement Strategy & Governance Framework. Submissions are due by 5.00pm Thursday 3 December 2020 A proposal for the Torpedo Factory at Sub Base Platypus. Submissions are due by 5pm on Friday 11 December 2020. North Head Sanctuary Manly with the view to determining ‘what the significance of the site should be in future’, and preparing a rehabilitation plan and new master plan. Submissions close 30 November 2020.
Save the dateHPG will be holding an AGM on Friday 4 December at 6.00 pm at the Grand Hall Mosman Art Gallery. We would like as many of you to attend as possible however numbers will be limited due to COVID protocols. Please note that all protective COVID measures will be put in place. A formal notice of meeting will be sent out shortly detailing a registration process for attendees. Michael Pender, heritage architect and director of the 10 Terminal and Parklands Project will attend the meeting to present the Harbour Trust’s vision.
